This 5-day devotional is based on the message “Choose Part 4 | Choose Purpose” from Heart City Church. Each day, open your Bible, read the scripture, reflect on the devotion, and close with prayer. God has placed a calling on your life — and He never intended for you to carry it alone.

Day 1 — God Calls Ordinary People

📖 Scripture: Luke 1:26-31, 38
“Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God… Behold, I am the servant of the Lord. Let it be to me according to your word.”

Mary was ordinary. Young, engaged, planning a future — and then God interrupted everything. He didn't choose her because she was the most qualified or the most prepared. He chose her because she was willing. Her response wasn't a confident “I've got this” — it was a humble “Let it be.” That's what saying yes to God looks like. Not having it all together, just being willing to trust Him with what you don't understand yet.

Apply it: Is there something God has been nudging you toward that feels too big or too uncertain? What would it look like to say “Let it be to me according to your word” in that area today?

🙏 Prayer: Lord, I don't have it all figured out, and that's okay. Help me to say yes to what you're calling me to, even when I don't see the full picture. I trust that when you call me, you stay with me. Amen.

Day 2 — Faith Through Fear

📖 Scripture: Luke 1:30 & Romans 8:28
“Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God… And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good.”

Faith isn't the absence of fear — it's choosing to trust God in the middle of it. Mary was afraid. The disciples were afraid. We are afraid. And yet over and over in scripture, the message is the same: do not be afraid. Not because life isn't hard, but because God is with you. He has not asked us to be fearless on our own. He has promised to be our peace in the middle of the storm.

Apply it: What fear has been keeping you from stepping forward in faith? Write it down. Then write beside it: “God is with me in this.”

🙏 Prayer: God, I confess that fear often feels louder than faith. Help me to hear your voice above the noise. Remind me that you are with me and that you work all things together for my good. Amen.

Day 3 — Run Toward Community

📖 Scripture: Luke 1:39-45 & Hebrews 10:24-25
“In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country… And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb.”

When life got overwhelming, Mary didn't stay home alone. She ran to someone safe. She chose community over isolation. And God had already been preparing Elizabeth to be exactly who Mary needed. That's still how God works — He places people in our lives who are ready to speak life into us, pray with us, and remind us of who we are. But we have to show up. We have to run toward people instead of pulling away.

Apply it: Is there someone in your life who is your “Elizabeth” — someone who encourages you and points you back to Jesus? Reach out to them today. And ask yourself: am I being that person for someone else?

🙏 Prayer: Lord, thank you for the people you have placed in my life. Help me not to isolate when life gets hard, but to run toward community. Show me who needs me to be an Elizabeth to them today. Amen.

Day 4 — Choose Gratitude Before Circumstances Change

📖 Scripture: Luke 1:46-49 & Philippians 4:6-7
“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior… Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

Mary worshiped before her circumstances changed. She was still young, still uncertain, still facing an unknown road — and she chose gratitude anyway. This is one of the most countercultural things a believer can do. Our world says wait until things get better to be thankful. But scripture says bring your thanksgiving into the middle of the struggle. Gratitude doesn't deny the hardship — it refuses to let the hardship have the final word.

Apply it: Take five minutes to write three things God has done for you that you haven't thanked Him for recently. Let remembering His faithfulness fuel your trust in Him right now.

🙏 Prayer: God, I choose to magnify you today — not because life is easy, but because you are faithful. Help me to fix my eyes on your goodness instead of my circumstances. You are worthy of praise in every season. Amen.

Day 5 — Jesus Is Your Strength

📖 Scripture: John 19:25-27 & Isaiah 40:29-31
“But standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother… He gives power to the faint and to him who has no might, He increases strength.”

The same Mary who held baby Jesus in the manger stood at the foot of the cross and watched her son suffer. And even there — in His own pain — Jesus saw her. He cared for her. That same Jesus sees you today. He sees the exhaustion, the anxiety, the invisible weight you are carrying. You are not performing for God's approval. You are not defined by how much you do or how well you hold it together. You are loved, seen, and chosen — and when your strength runs out, His never does.

Apply it: What burden have you been carrying in your own strength that you need to hand over to Jesus today? Come to Him not with a performance, but with an open hand.

🙏 Prayer: Jesus, I am tired of carrying this on my own. I bring it to you today. Thank you that you see me, you know me, and your strength never runs out. I choose to trust you with everything I am carrying right now. In your name, Amen.
