This 5-day devotional is based on the message “Choose Part 2 | Choose Love” from Heart City Church. Each day, open your Bible, read the scripture, reflect on the devotion, and close with prayer. Love is not a feeling you wait for — it’s a decision you make every single day.
Day 1 — Love Demands Action
📖 Scripture: Matthew 5:43-44
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”
When Jesus commands us to love our enemies, He isn’t making a suggestion — He’s redefining what it means to follow Him. Love is not a feeling you wait for. It’s a decision you make. Mother Teresa didn’t serve the poorest of the poor because she felt like it every day. She said, “I only did what love demanded.”
Today, ask God: What is love demanding of me right now? Is there someone in your life you’ve been avoiding, ignoring, or holding a grudge against? Love is calling you to act — not when it’s easy, but now.
🙏 Prayer: Lord, show me where love is calling me to act today — even when it’s inconvenient, even when it’s costly. Give me the courage to move when love demands it. Amen.
Day 2 — Fullness of Life Is Found in the Word
📖 Scripture: Matthew 19:16-22
“If you would enter life, keep the commandments… You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
The rich young ruler had everything the world offered — and he walked away sorrowful. Jesus offered him something greater: Zoē — the fullness of life found in following God’s Word. Salvation isn’t earned; it’s a free gift. But anything that has a greater hold on us than God becomes an idol.
Today, honestly ask yourself: Is there something I’m unwilling to release to God? A habit, a relationship, a dream, a fear? Jesus isn’t asking you to give it up so you’ll have less — He’s asking so you’ll have more of Him.
🙏 Prayer: Father, reveal the things in my life I’ve held onto tighter than You. Help me to open my hands and trust that You are enough — more than enough. Amen.
Day 3 — Love Transforms
📖 Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.”
Without love, even the most impressive spiritual gifts are just noise. You can preach, prophesy, and perform miracles — but if love isn’t driving it, heaven isn’t moved. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.”
You don’t have to have enemies. You can choose to have people you’re praying for instead. True love genuinely desires that others’ lives get better. Who in your life needs that kind of transforming love from you today?
🙏 Prayer: Jesus, let the love You placed in me be greater than my offense. Transform my relationships the way only You can. Let me bring a harp into every room, not a gong. Amen.
Day 4 — Who Is My Neighbor?
📖 Scripture: Luke 10:25-37
“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers? The one who had mercy on him. Go and do likewise.”
The Good Samaritan didn’t check the beaten man’s background, political affiliation, or social status before helping him. He simply saw a person in trouble and responded. The priest and the Levite had religion without compassion — and Jesus says that’s not enough.
Your neighbor is the coworker who annoys you. The person who wronged you. The stranger you pass every day without noticing. Today, look for your Good Samaritan moment. It may not be dramatic — it might just be a kind word, a helping hand, or a simple prayer offered on someone’s behalf.
🙏 Prayer: Lord, open my eyes to the people around me who are hurting. Let me not pass by on the other side. Make me someone who stops, kneels down, and shows the love of Jesus. Amen.
Day 5 — God Is Love and Light
📖 Scripture: 1 John 4:7-8; 1 John 1:5
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love… God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.”
After years of walking with Jesus, the Apostle John summed God up in just two words: love and light. Perfect love casts out fear. Where love is present, darkness cannot stay. Where you go, you carry the presence of God — which means you have the power to change the atmosphere of a room, a conversation, a life.
You don’t need a platform or a microphone to make a difference. You need love. The greatest gift Jesus said we could operate in — greater than prophecy, greater than tongues, greater than miracles — is love. Walk in it today. Walk in it everywhere.
As Mother Teresa said: “Not all of us can do great things, but we can all do small things with great love.”
🙏 Prayer: Father, let me be a carrier of Your love and light today. Let fear have no place where I am. Use the small things in my life to do great things for Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
